Editorial & Sourcing Standards
How we verify data, de-escalate marketing numbers, and handle corrections.
Specification-Based Research
ReticleBench synthesizes technical specifications, engineering manuals, optical diagrams, and user-submitted verification reports. We cross-reference multiple distributor listings to confirm whether advertised figures represent genuine hardware capabilities or post-sensor digital enlargement.
- Primary Datasheets
- Native sensor resolutions, physical connector specifications (HDMI 1.4, USB 2.0/3.0, UVC), and native focal distances straight from manufacturer documentation.
- Optical Mathematics
- Working clearance calculated against objective barrel dimensions, thread standards (such as C-mount or M42), and extension ring heights.
- Hardware Demotions
- Marketing assertions of “interpolated 4K” or “digital zoom” are explicitly separated from true optical resolution.
Corrections Policy
Manufacturer production runs frequently introduce unannounced hardware revisions, such as swapping out an optical sensor, changing stand thread sizes, or altering firmware output modes. When revised datasheets or documented discrepancies emerge, our editorial updates follow a clear procedure:
- We confirm the discrepancy against updated manufacturer technical documentation or user assembly measurements.
- The relevant article is updated immediately to reflect modified working clearances, latency observations, or port limitations.
- Where a specification modification affects buying utility (e.g., clearance reduction), an explicit update note is added to the evaluation text.
